EMCO Wheaton’s 1600 series is an automatic train fueling system that is widely recognised as the industry standard for diesel locomotives.
Having now been on the market for 40 years, thousands of customers use this system daily to increase efficiency and control the cost of fueling platform operations.
This longevity not only reflects the product’s ongoing value in the field but also its durability after repeat use.
This train fueling system consists of the G1630 nozzle and G1620 adaptor. The EMCO Wheaton adaptor is mounted to a diesel tank at each fueling connection on a locomotive’s chassis. Only minor modifications are required for this installation – simply remove the existing fittings and replace. All adaptors can also be shipped with dust caps to protect the product from damage.
The G1630 nozzle connects to the adaptor quickly and easily, and since shut off occurs at a safe pre-set level no fuel is spilled when it is uncoupled. The nozzle is also hydraulically balanced to permit easy opening and shock-free closing. This feature makes it possible to save fueling time by starting the pump before attaching the nozzle. Increased pumping rates are also possible since higher pump relief valve settings may be used safely.
Other features include an automatic shut off when the fuel tank reaches capacity and a consistent fuel level that avoids underfill or overfill issues. This allows operators to attend to other tasks when filling is taking place. The automatic shut off is also housed in the G1630 nozzle, so bench repairs can also be made without significant downtime.
Other features and benefits include:
Note – this system can be customised to meet your needs.
Nozzle The G1630 body is made of aluminium. It has a flow rate of 227-1363 litres/min (50-300 US gallons/min).
Adaptor The G1620 adaptor is made of aluminium with a plastic poppet.
EMCO Wheaton’s automatic train fueling systems are specifically designed for the rapid fueling of diesel locomotives. They are used extensively across the US, Canada and Brazil, and are revered for their ability to speed up filling times, deliver consistent fuel levels, and control the cost of platform operations.
This product is proven in the field. It has no moving parts, making it an incredibly durable system that can be relied on repeatedly. However, EMCO Wheaton recognises the taxing nature of train fueling applications and acknowledges that even the best solutions need regular maintenance to ensure correct function. That is why we offer service kits and OEM spares for in-field servicing.
